Most fly tiers prize a pattern that’s easy to tie, requires few materials, and catches fish. The Whistle Pig Jig checks every box. With just a single material for the tails, body, and collar, it’s a pattern that you can crank out quickly, once you’ve got the steps down, and its buggy profile just screams “I’m trout food!”

Whistle Pig Jig
Hook: Black nickel jig hook (here a Lighting Strike JF2 ), size 12.
Head: Copper tungsten slotted bead, 1/8-inch.
Thread: Black, 6/0 or 140-denier.
Tail: Woodchuck guard hairs, cleaned and stacked.
Rib: Copper wire, small.
Body: Woodchuck underfur dubbing.
Collar: Woodchuck underfur.
Adhesive: Head cement or Sally Hansen Hard-As-Nails.
