Video: Why You Should Prepare Materials Before You Start Tying

A few years ago, we launched a new series of videos called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video will teach a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.

Very few of us will ever be production fly tiers, but as Tim notes at the start of this video, there’s a lot we can learn from folks who make their living at the vise. When you do want to tie a bunch of the same pattern, it pays to prepare all the materials in advance, so everything is handy and ready to roll, allowing you to focus on the tying process itself. If there are certain patterns that you tie a lot throughout the season, the same advantages apply.
