Video: How to Cast in the Wind

There are lots of theories about the best way to make accurate fly casts in the wind, and there’s also a bit of old-wives’-tale balderdash you need to avoid (such as “casting under the wind”). In this video, Capt. Chris Myers makes the point that the best way to beat the wind is to cast directly into it as much as possible. If your line in any way fall across the wind–such as if you make a wide loop or if your backcast angles upward–the wind can exert much more force on the line, ruining the cast. So what you’re shooting for whenever possible is a tight loop, straight into the wind.
