Welcome to the latest installment of our series of videos called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video demonstrates a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.

In the first video about what Tim calls “finesse dubbing,” he demonstrates how to start sparse and then go even sparser to create a thin, even noodle. Here, he shows you how to deal with a couple problems that may arise when you’re creating a dubbed body–having too much dubbing on the thread or having too much bare thread. As usual, Tim’s solutions are simple and elegant.
