Passed away peacefully in Tualatin, Oregon on September 19, 2021. He was 80 years old. Tom grew up with his parents Frank and Eileen Walsh and his sister Jolene in their family home on Watson Avenue in St. Paul. Following his graduation from St. Thomas Military Academy, Tom attended the University of Notre Dame, graduating with a Communications/Journalism degree in 1962. Tom worked for the next 36 years with 3M Company/3M-Harris/Lanier Worldwide, living in San Diego, CA, Huntington Beach, CA, American Fork, UT, Sandy, UT, Lake Elmo, MN, Lafayette, CA and Naples Island, CA before retiring to Driggs, ID. Through all of the moves, he continued to build his fall Saturdays around Notre Dame football whenever possible. Throughout his adult life, Tom threw himself deeply into his outdoor passions, driven by the calendar and what was accessible in the places they lived: horseback riding, backpacking, hunting, fly fishing, running (including the San Francisco Marathon), road biking and sailing. In retirement, Tom and Wynne Ann moved to Driggs Idaho and built a lovely log cabin overlooking the Tetons. When the season turned to winter, he and Wynne Ann became stellar ski instructors at Grand Targhee Resort which they continued to do until they no longer could. Tom loved to read, especially Irish storytellers. In retirement, he returned to writing, authoring two books: Damnyankee, A WWII Story of Tragedy and Survival off the West of Ireland, and The Sons of Joseph McGuire, which beautifully captures his fondness of Ireland which he was able to visit over 20 times. While living in the Teton Valley, he wrote a regular column in the Idaho Falls Press Democrat. Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wynne Ann (Dahl) Walsh; sister Jolene (Walsh) Madden; sons Daniel (Katrine), Matthew and Thomas (Carol); and his grandchildren Ryan, Erin, Maddy, Will, Nick, and Maddie. There will be a memorial service on Saturday May 14th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church, 4537 3rd Ave. S., Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF). www.alzdiscovery.org
