The South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge is hosting the 18th annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, September 11 at Tahoe Paradise Park’s Lake Baron. The Derby is free to all children under the age of 16.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at Lake Baron, near the main entrance. Hot dogs, chips, sodas, and water are provided free to all registered children. The event wraps up at 2:00 p.m.

For the event, the Moose Lodge will plant the lake with hundreds of pounds of catchable rainbow trout, ranging from one to five pounds. Fishing poles, tackle, and bait are provided or kids can bring their own. This year, the Lodge is supporting the Lake’s “Catch and Release” program, encouraging each child to catch and release as many trout as they can, but keep only a limit of two.

Each registered child will receive a free raffle ticket for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Cash Prize (donated by El Dorado Savings Bank). The winner will be drawn at 12:00 p.m. Each child will also receive an additional raffle ticket to select a prize from a large selection of toys and games.

After 2:00 p.m., the lake will re-open to the community for “Catch and Release” fishing only, following the Park’s new fishing regulations. From September 1 through June 30 it is Catch & Release Only, Zero Limit (Barbless Artificial Lures or Flies Only/No Bait) and from. July 1 – August 31, two fish limit with a family limit for four fish.
