The Sierra Schools Foundation will be hosting its annual “Swinging for the Schools” golf tournament fundraiser on Oct. 1. Please join the Foundation for a fun day of golf at the Plumas Pines Golf Resort followed by a delicious BBQ steak dinner and a unique silent auction and prize opportunity.

Some prizes will include a free stay at The Lost Sierra Ranch & Fly Fishing and an opportunity to fly fish on the ponds, creek and the Middle River Feather River on our 180-acre ranch located in Plumas County. Visit www.sierraschoolsfoundation.org/golf to register you and/or your team, sponsor a tee or donate a prize. You can also email us at foundationsierraschools.com with any questions, comments or to sign up for the dinner separately.

Organizer Jack Trout is requesting that any former alumni from any schools in Plumas County should consider coming back and donating or helping out the Sierra Schools Foundation anyway they can. Kids more than ever need inspiration, mentors, hobbies & history. “Those of us who have become successful through the education we received as a kid in Plumas Schools can now come back and pass the torch on,” Trout said. “Together, we can easily make this event a success for the kids, it feels great.”

A little history

Founded in July of 2011, The Sierra Schools Foundation is now in its 11th year and is proud to announce that it has funded over $400,000 in support of the public schools of Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District.

To date, 228 grants have been awarded, to include the funding of field trips as far away as New York, college tours with local community exploration, indoor and outdoor classroom equipment, STEM programs, English language learners programming, arts programs in partnership with the Sierra County Arts Council and music in the schools in partnership with Musica Sierra. During the Foundation’s spring 2017 grant cycle programming was expanded to include a yearly grant opportunity for seniors in high school to apply for our “Dream Big” senior project funding where every approved student receives up to $500 towards their senior project.

Additionally, during COVID, funding was supplied for programs supporting social and emotional learning for both teachers and students, care and wellness packages were handed out to all teachers, aids and students and touchless water fountains were purchased and installed at all campuses to enhance drinking water and make the sites safer for students returning to school.

In an effort to continue the programs that supply each student with a unique opportunity to explore, appreciate and preserve their “roots” and the rural landscape that shaped them, while also providing them the with the “boots” – or skills, training and experiences – to walk into their future prepared and inspired for what is ahead, the Sierra Schools Foundation will be hosting its annual “Swinging for the Schools” golf tournament fundraiser.
