South Coast Fly Anglers held its annual prize-giving evening at the Trafalgar home of Stephen and Olga Brand last Saturday.

Thirty members, spouses and partners attended the function that took the form of a well-distanced-braai.

Steve had sourced dozens of lucky-dip prizes from Luckys, as well as from Xplorer in Durban.

Receiving some of the South Coast Fly Anglers top awards for 2020 are (from left) Ian Logie, Alison van der Merwe (on behalf of her son Liam), Sean Tharratt and Jaco Strauss.

Belinda Brand had also prepared various bottles of marmalade and pickles, which were much appreciated by the recipients.

The multitude of gifts ensured that all those present received at least one small token of appreciation, for what has been a difficult year for the club.

Besides raking in the Chris van Wyk Chairman’s Award, Sean Tharratt also collected the trophies for the Freshwater and Saltwater Fly Tyer of the Year, certificates for the Most Fish Caught (262), Most Species Caught (9), as well as merit awards for a 2.9kg rainbow trout and a 1.9kg bass.

Jaco Strauss was adjudged to be the club’s Most Improved Angler and also received the trophy for The Most Meritorious Fish, a 70 cm brown trout.

Protea angler, Liam van der Merwe was given a certificate for the second Most Meritorious Fish, a smallmouth yellowfish of 70cm caught in the Mzimkhulu River in the Paddock district.

Liam and Ian Logie received Merit Awards for greenspot kingfish, which were caught in the Mzimkhulu River mouth.

Winners of the club raffle of flies tied by SCFA members during the year were David Schultz, Bill Derman and Rob Nicholas respectively.
