RONALD PALMER Obituary (2021) – Mount Vernon, WA

Ronald D. Palmer, age 73, went to be with his Lord on April 16, 2021, after a long struggle with cancer. He had just recently relocated from Mount Vernon, WA to Longview, TX where he could be cared for by his son but passed away suddenly with pneumonia.

He was born on August 3, 1947 to Lionel and Joanne (Adams) Palmer at the Omak Memorial Hospital. Ron attended kindergarten through High School in Omak, WA and graduated in 1965.

He went on to Wenatchee Valley College for 2 years, then attended Washington State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis on bacteriology/microbiology.

Ron married Sharon Baker in Walla Walla, WA. in 1971, then moved to Mount Vernon, WA and went to work for the Skagit Valley Health Department where he held several different titles before retiring in 2019.

He loved the outdoors and had property on the Skagit River where he enjoyed fishing for whatever species of Salmon or Steelhead was running at the time. He, also, looked forward to family hunting trips every year in Omak and then going to Yakima for fall Elk hunting.

He loved fly fishing and shooting and made his own rods, tied his own flies, and even built some of his rifles and pistols. He loved animals and people and made friends wherever he went, had a wonderful sense of humor and a hardy laugh.

He is survived by his mother Joanne, brother Larry (Laura) and their family, ex-wife Sharon, daughter Jennifer of MT Vernon, WA, and her children C. J. and Haley, son Kelsey (Trisha) of Longview, TX, and their children Brianne (Robby) Pittis, Kyle (Carly), and Bailey, step son Jeff of Mt Vernon, WA, and step daughter Diniesha (Peter) Mason of North Salt Lake, Utah, and their daughter Sophie.

He, also, has 4 great grandchildren. His family, still in Omak, includes cousins Deanne Brathen and her family, Judy Payne and her family and step aunt Wid Siemon and family.

He was preceded in death by his father Lionel and his cousins Dale Payne and Johnny Brathen.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, May 15, 2021 at Omak Memorial Cemetery, 2517 Elmway Ave, Okanogan, WA, with Jack Schneider officiating.
