Robert G. “Bob” Hitzeman, 73, of Cogan Station, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport. Surviving is his loving wife, Diane M. (Solarek) Hitzeman, with whom he would have celebrated a 50th anniversary on Sept. 23, 2022.

Born Sept. 24, 1948, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late William J. and Erma L. (Hoffman) Hitzeman.

Bob was a 1968 graduate of the Williamsport Area High School. He served his country proudly in the Amphibious Naval Reserve Force from 1968 to 1970 and served in the U. S. Navy in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. Bob was previously employed at Ferno Ille, then worked for the Williamsport School District as the Director of Maintenance and Facilities until he retired in 2010.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed camping at their seasonal lot at Nittany Mountain or fishing and fly tying. He was an avid member of the Lycoming Creek Anglers, where he was instrumental in helping to build a fish hatchery and helped to stock fish in the Lycoming Creek every spring. Other hobbies included attending car shows, woodworking and riding his Harley motorcycle.

Bob was also a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and the National Rifle Association.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters Alicia “Ali” M. Long (Chris) of East Berlin and Traci L. Foster (Jon) of Williamsport; two grandsons Jack and Phin Foster; a brother William “Bill” Hitzeman (Lynda) of Gettysburg; and a half-sister Patricia Berry of Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Hitzeman, and a half-brother, Gary Cramer.

A funeral service to honor the life of Bob will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery with military honors. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Sanders Mortuary. The family requests masks to be worn.
