Dr. Richard (Dick) Foth, age 91, of St. Charles, IL. died peacefully on Monday, May 16th, 2022 at Northwestern Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Il. Dick was born on November 2nd, 1930 in Aurora, Illinois, the son of the late Henry and Helen (Dittman) Foth of Aurora.

Dick was raised in Aurora where he attended St. Pauls Lutheran School and East Aurora High School (1948). He received his B.A. from North Central College in 1952. Dick graduated from the Northwestern University Medical School in 1956 in the top five in his class and was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. After graduating from Medical School, he entered the U.S. Army as a Captain and served in a military hospital in El Paso, TX for two years. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago in 1962.

Dick practiced medicine at Dreyer Medical Clinic in Aurora from 1962 to 1997. He was President of Dreyer from 1982 to 1987. He was Chief of Staff at Rush Copley Hospital from 1988 to 1989 with 30 Doctors reporting to him.

Dick was the team physician for the East Aurora High School basketball and football teams from 1965 to 1975. While he enjoyed going to every game for both sports, he was a big Tomcat basketball fan.

Dick was very active in Aurora civic affairs. He served on the board of directors of the Aurora Blood Bank, the Aurora YMCA, The Fox Valley Symphony and West Suburban Bank. He also served on the Board of Trustees at the New England Congregational Church.

Dick loved to play tennis with his friends and family. On any given Saturday or Sunday summer afternoon you could find him on the courts at Westwind or the Aurora Country Club. He played with his usual group of friends until he was into his mid-eighties. He also loved to fly fish. He learned on the Fox River when he was a young boy. It was a passion that he took through his entire life. He spent many summers in Montana fly fishing with some of his closest friends and family. He retired in Montana in his mid-sixties and continued to fly fish there into his eighties. He loved to share stories of his many fishing adventures – they always made you laugh and smile. He took his last fly-fishing trip with his son when he was 90.

Dick is survived by his wife of eight years, Louise Grissinger of Geneva, Il; daughters Pam Foth of Annaconda, MT, Robin (Foth) Gambol of Wheaton, Il; his son, David Foth (Didi) of Glen Ellyn, Il; his grandchildren Alex Duff, Hannah Foth, Emma and Anna Gambol. He was preceded in death by his first wife (60 years) Lorel Foth; his brother Don Foth of West Lafayette, IN.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held on September 10th, at the Barbara Belding Lodge at the Brewster Creek Forest Preserve, 6N921 Il. Route 25, St. Charles, Illinois from 12:00 to 2:00 PM.
