Richard “Rusty” Alford

Richard “Rusty” Martin Alford, 73, of Owasso passed away February 13, 2022. Born April 7, 1948 in Okmulgee, the son of Marita and Guy Alford, he grew up in Tulsa, where he earned BS and Masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tulsa and earned numerous awards during his notable career as a geophysicist with Amoco, including the prestigious Kauffman Gold Medal.

Rusty personified his favorite Stephen Hunt quote: “If you’re not living life on the edge, you’re taking up too much space.” He loved hang gliding, cycling, fly fishing on wild rivers, sailing on Lake Gibson, racing his Porsche, and backroads on his BMW motorcycle—he tolerated Harleys for the sake of his wife, LeeAnn.

Survived by his wife of 11 years, LeeAnn Bucklin Alford, Rusty leaves a family forever enriched by his love, stepdaughter and son-in-law Carly and Andrew Karriman; stepson and daughter-in-law Josh and Jeannette Johnston; beloved grandchildren who adored their PawPaw: Boston, Berkeley, Bear, Bowie and Banks Karriman, and Nico Johnston. He was big brother to Pam Kaylor, Aaron Alford, Mark Alford, Geri Loiacono, Chad Loiacono and his husband Jeff, and a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Rusty was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, partner of 30 years and survivor of their crazy adventures, Celeste Marie Alford; and three adored Labs, Brigand, Merlyn and Lancelot.

At Rusty’s request there will be no services. Just remember him and smile. Or, in lieu of flowers, you can honor his love for all animals by a donation to any animal rescue or a rescue he supported, Soft Landings Parrot Rescue (Venmo @Lisa-Moser-33). www.tulsacremation.com
