SUBLETTE COUNTY — Bomgaars chose to donate a portion of its sales from a Ladies’ Night held in October to Casting for Recovery (CFR) in memory of former coworker Diana Ramberg. CFR’s mission is to “enhance the quality of life of women with breast cancer through a unique retreat program that combines breast cancer education and peer support with the therapeutic sport of fly fishing.”

Supported through donations, CFR hosts outdoor retreats across the country for breast cancer survivors, giving them opportunities to spend time in nature where they can relax, share experiences with other survivors and learn fly fishing. The gentle, rhythmic motion of fly casting can be good therapy for the upper body and encourages increased mobility for women who have had surgery or radiation as part of their breast cancer treatment.

About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer in the course of their life, making it the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women, according to breastcancer.org. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that about 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the U.S. in a given year is found in a male.

Wyoming’s retreat is held at the Absaroka Guest Ranch, just outside of Dubois.
There is no cost to participants and women “of any age, at any stage” of treatment or recovery may apply.

The 2023 Dubois retreat is scheduled for Aug. 11-13 and applications are open now until June 1. Apply online at castingforrecovery.org.
