My first week offered varied locations and experiences . . . and a cool leech.

It’s Day 8 of our “20 Days in September” Photo Contest, and since “thirty days hath September,” you could start today and still complete the challenge. How are you doing so far? I’m doing okay, having fished every day but two, focusing on brook trout in our mountain streams and chasing browns on the Battenkill, which has great water for this time of year thanks to recent rains. The assistant editor of this blog, Evan Jones, is visiting from Colorado, so I’ve been showing him some of my favorite spots in southwestern Vermont.

It’s still not too late for you to get in on the action. You don’t need to hit 20 days to take part; all we’re looking for is a good effort at getting out as often as you possibly can. Heck you can fish one day this month and still enter the photo contest. At the end of the month, we’re picking three winners and offering some killer prizes, including a Helios 3 Fly Rod.

Important reminders:

  1. Photos of trout and steelhead must show the fish in the water to qualify.
  2. Don’t forget the prize for photos of river cleanup. (See #2 below.)
  3. Click here for all the #20sepdays on Instagram.

Below are ten great shots from the first week of the month, mostly on Instagram. (There are lots on Facebook, too, but they’re harder to share.) We look forward to seeing hundreds more! Leave a comment telling us how many days you’ve managed so far.
