For those who don’t have a fishing license, but would like to try it, the state Fish and Boat Commission is offering adults the chance to fish for free for Sunday.

While people don’t need a fishing license Sunday, all other fishing regulations, including season and creel limits, still will apply.

The fishing regulations are available for viewing by using the FishBoatPA mobile app or the Fish and Boat Commission website: fishandboat.com.

The fish commission reminds boaters to wear a life jacket; never boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs; take a basic boating safety course; have a “float plan” to let others know when and where they’ll be boating; and have proper boat registrations or launch permits.

On Saturday and Sunday, waterways conservation officers will participate in Operation Dry Water, an enhanced enforcement of boating under the influence.

The blood alcohol limit for boat operators — whether or not the boat has a motot — is 0.08%, the same as driving a car.

Conservation officers are trained to recognize signs of impairment and conduct sobriety tests on the water, the commission said.

Possible penalties for being convicted of BUI include fines, loss of boating privileges and jail.
