Paul Joseph Veneziale, 72, of Petersburg, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, of complications from a spinal cord injury after 44 years.

Born Sept. 4, 1950, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Carmine and Cecelia (McCloskey) Veneziale. He was united in marriage to Claire (Mooney) Veneziale, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Colleen Boyd and husband, Bradford; four grandchildren and five great-grandsons. He is also survived by a brother, Mark Veneziale and wife, Lisa; and a sister, Kathleen Dintino and husband, Robert.

He was preceded in death by a daughter two years ago, Collette Morningstar; a brother, David Veneziale; and a sister, Beth Anne Veneziale.

Paul was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon, and a member of the Juniata Valley Lions Club, Alexandria, where he served as past president.

He was a graduate of Central High School in Philadelphia and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Pennsylvania State University.

Paul was a teacher in the State College Area School District for over 25 years, having taught middle school and high school social studies and special needs students during the course of his career. He was instrumental in welcoming special needs students to be integrated into regular vocational and technical specialties.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and fly tying. He also enjoyed travel and visited every state except Hawaii. Above all, Paul will be remembered as a humble man who demonstrated phenomenal resilience and strength of character.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until noon Friday, Jan. 27, in the gathering space of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 524 Mifflin St., Huntingdon. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday, Jan. 27, in the church, with the Rev. Father Mark Reid officiating.
