Naif Khoury
Naif Samuel Khoury departed this life on May 1, 2021.
He was born to Pauline and Samuel Khoury on December 13, 1942, in Wheeling, West Virginia. A graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University and the University of Detroit School of Law, he practiced law as a trial attorney in Fort Smith for over forty years. After retiring from the practice of law, he devoted his life to his true passion, the beauty and wonder of nature. His pursuit of the perfect trout led him to places such as Alaska and Europe. Having become an expert in fly fishing, he hosted frequent classes and seminars on fly tying in several western states. Naif loved sailing and owned several boats, his last one being christened, ‘Mea Culpa’. Naif was an avid hunter and collector of antique firearms, an interest which grew from his service as an ordnance officer in the U.S. Army. One of his duty stations was at Ft. Chaffee where he became smitten with Arkansas. After his discharge from the regular army as a Captain in 1974, he began his legal practice in Fort Smith with the Sam Sexton law firm. He was later associated with the law firm of Robert Blatt and Steven Sharum, then closed out his career as a solo practitioner.
Naif was preceded in death by his parents and his friend and former wife, Cheryl Patterson. He is survived by his sisters, Paula Khoury of Wheeling, West Virginia, and Janis Donley of York, Pennsylvania, his loyal canine companion, Buddy, and by a host of friends and former clients, who will remember him fondly.
Always ready to come to the aid of someone in need, Naif was a true gentleman. Naif desired that no service be held for him, trusting that the remembrances in the hearts of those who knew and loved him will be a sufficient memorial. His ashes will be laid to rest among his fellow veterans at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine. Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine. (May eternal light shine upon him, O Lord. Grant him eternal rest, O Lord)
