Michael David Rooney
June 4, 1960 – October 26, 2021
Michael David Rooney was born to David and Christine Rooney in Marin General Hospital in San Rafael, California and grew up in Rohnert Park, California. Mike met his future wife, Toni Danielle Spaletto at a golf tournament in 1993. They were married in 1996; Mike and Toni built a life in Sonoma County for 27 years with their daughters, Alexandra and Brooke.
Mike was a loving and supportive husband, father, brother, athlete, coworker, boss, and friend. Family was his top priority and made it a point to never miss his girls’ sports games; everyone knew when Mike Rooney arrived, when you could hear him across the field/court cheering his girls on. Next to his love for his wife and his girls, Mike loved dogs. Dogs being another very important member to the family!
Mike excitedly involved himself in his many passions in sports and hobbies. Mike was a collegiate golfer at San Diego State University and had a very successful amateur golf career. He was an amazing athlete and loved the tenacity it took to become the best at all sports including golf, snow/water skiing, tennis, biking, hunting, fly fishing, and kayaking. As a family, they enjoyed water sports, snow sports, and mountain biking, which is a big reason why they moved to Central Oregon. Mike was also a skilled woodworker and Harley-Davidson enthusiast. The extensive list of Mike’s passions and interests could go on forever.
Mike was a prominent community member due to his excitement to get involved and help the community in any way he could. His hobbies took him on many adventures and with that, connected him to many people throughout his life. Professionally, Mike spent over 35 years in the mortgage business. Mike lived a full and well-rounded life all while putting in noticeable hard work and dedication to all that he did.
Everyone Mike met was positively impacted by his larger-than-life presents, big heart, bright smile, infectious laugh, and kind social nature. Mike was surrounded by so many friends from childhood, college, the fraternity, fellow competitors, community members, and people from the mortgage industry. The close bonds he built with people around him were made clear through others’ high admiration of Mike and endless jokes and stories. When around Mike, you were guaranteed to be smiling, laughing, and having a great time. In his relationships with those he loved most, Mike was more than “Mike”, as he acquired a variety of nicknames over the years–including Dada, Sweetie, Big Mike, Jumbo, Dog, Mite, Big Bird, and Kid.
Mike is survived by his wife Toni and his two daughters Alex and Brooke, as well as his three siblings, Peggy Soares, David Rooney, and Keith Rooney.
A Celebration of Life for Michael David Rooney will be held at his childhood golf course, located at Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park, California at 5 PM Saturday, December 4, 2021. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting attendees to bring a note to the service of a memory of Mike as a keepsake for his family.
