Kristopher Westerhuis

Shokan, NY – Kristopher Westerhuis, a loving father, son, brother and friend, entered into rest on February 20, 2022 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh with his family by his side.

Kris was born on March 25, 1968 in Cold Spring, New York, the son of Augustine “Gus” Westerhuis and the late Adele Bruno Westerhuis. He was a former resident of Beacon and Garrison and currently of Shokan. He graduated from Norwich University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Kris was employed as a mechanical engineer with MH Professional Engineering in Clifton Park where he was fully devoted, highly respected and loved by his co-workers. Kris enjoyed fly fishing and was an avid trout fisherman. He also loved music, playing the guitar, cooking and finding new intriguing recipes but most importantly watching his children play high school sports.

Kris is survived by his three beloved children, Adele, William and Liliana; his father, Augustine “Gus” Westerhuis and his wife, Charlene; his siblings, Mary Cynthia Houlihan and her husband, John, Martha Kormondy and her husband, Kevin, Augustine Westerhuis, Jr., Kathleen Hockler, Anne Slinskey and her husband, Sam III and Barbara Wells and her husband, Gary; the mother of his children, Cynthia Wing; his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his mother, Kris was predeceased by his grandparents, Adele and John Bruno and Stella and Lewis Westerhuis.

Family and friends will gather on Friday, February 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 26 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 Willow Street, Beacon. Burial will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery.
