Jackson, Wyo. — The 31st annual Kids Fishing Day returns to Rendezvous Park (“R” Park) this Saturday, June 4. This free event, hosted by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, invites kids under 13 to “get hooked on fishing” and runs from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We’re happy to have Kids Fishing Day back to its full program this year! After canceling 2020’s Kids Fishing Day due to COVID and offering a scaled-down version in 2021, we are excited to offer learning activities, lunch, and fishing this year,” said Wyoming Game and Fish Jackson Fish Biologist Diana Miller.
The pond at R Park will be stocked with hundreds of Snake River cutthroat trout. WGFD will be offering numerous educational activities including boating safety, fish anatomy, boating safety, and even a fish obstacle course.
The Jackson Hole Lions Club will be on-site serving up a free hot dog lunch at noon, with fishing in the pond to follow. Thanks to a generous grant from the Jackson Hole One Fly Foundation kids participating in the learning stations will be able to keep their fishing equipment to take home as their own.
Adult volunteers are always needed to help the event and act as “fishing guides” for the kids. If you are interested in volunteering contact Wyoming Game and Fish Jackson Fish Biologist Diana Miller at the Jackson Game and Fish office at 307-733-2321.
“This truly is a group effort with many volunteers and generous sponsors who donate both time and money to make this event such a success each year,” said Miller. “We couldn’t do it without them.”
