This coming weekend is the first one of autumn.

Apart from starting to rake leaves, viewing fall foliage, high school football games, and apple-picking, there are many fun things to do around Central New York.

The Jonas Brothers are performing at the Amp, the Westcott Street Cultural Fair, Sportsmen’s Days, Cazenovia Art Trail, and a SU football game are just some of the highlights.

Jonas Brothers at the Amp

The Jonas Brothers will be performing their hits and fan favorites on Sunday night at the St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview, part of their “Remember This Tour.” The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale through Live Nation for the Jonas Brothers’ Syracuse concert with Kelsea Ballerini. Additional tickets are available through StubHub, Seat Geek, TicketCity and Vivid Seats. Proof of vaccination or negative Covid test within 72 hours is required.

Food Truck Battle

Head to Chevy Court at the New York State Fairgrounds on Saturday for a Food Truck Battle featuring more than 35 food trucks from Syracuse, Rochester and beyond. Starting at 11 a.m., the event will include craft beer, craft vendors, low-cost food samples, a kids’ zone, games, and more. A portion from your $5 ticket will go to three local charities, the Food Bank of CNY, Helping Hounds Dog Rescue and Clear Path for Veterans. The Westcott Street Cultural Fair

The Bassett Street Hounds joined Thornden Morris and other local morris teams dance in the parade at the start of the Westcott Street Cultural Fair. It is an annual celebration of the diversity and uniqueness of the Westcott neighborhood through its culture, arts, food, organizations and activities for families and students. Now in its 29th year, the Westcott Street Cultural is an annual celebration of the diversity and uniqueness of the neighborhood with food, culture, arts, and organization. The fun starts at noon on Sunday with a parade, followed by food, music, and art through 6:30 p.m. Visit westcottstreetfair.org for more info and schedules.

Sportsmen’s Day at Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery

A variety of outdoor activities, suitable for all ages, are scheduled for Saturday at Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery in Elbridge on Saturday. Try your hand at clay target shooting, trapping, waterfowl identification/calling, turkey-calling, predator calling demonstrations, archery, air rifle, fly fishing, trout fishing demonstrations, jig tying, canoeing and muzzle loading. There will be demonstrations by woodsmen, local wildlife artists, authors, and dog trainers. It runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How much: $5 per vehicle. Free for veterans, active military and their families.

Cazenovia Art Trail

The Cazenovia Art Trail is a self-guided tour of artists’ studios around the village. It gives the public a unique opportunity to meet local artists in their working environments. The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Visit art-trail.org for more info and print out a map.

James Jameson

The Historic Oakwood Cemetery Preservation Association will be hosting a ceremony honoring the ten Black Civil War soldiers buried at the cemetery on the morning of Sept. 25, 2021. Honoring Black Civil War soldiers

Oakwood Cemetery will be hosting a ceremony on Saturday morning to pay tribute to the 10 Black Civil War soldiers who are buried in unmarked graves there. A fundraiser was started to acquire markers for these men and the first, for James Jameson, who served in the famed 54th Massachusetts Regiment, will have a new marker installed. The ceremony will have music, speakers, a gun salute, and wreath ceremony. It starts at 10 a.m. Please bring your own lawn chair if needed.

Kids’ Night Out at the Zoo

Looking for a night out? Let the Rosamond Gifford Zoo watch them on Friday evening. Starting at 5:30, children ages 6-10, can enjoy pizza, meets animals up close, tour zoo after hours, and make crafts and play games. The night should wrap up at around 9 p.m. Masks are required indoors. Tickets are $35 for non-members and $30 for members. OCC Classic Cruise & Views Car Show

The inaugural Onondaga Community College “Classic Cruise & Views Car Show” is scheduled for Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event was organized by the OCC Foundation. Check out some classic automobiles and enjoy live music and entertainment. Concession stand-type food will be available. Stop by the Automotive Technology Lab to see students working on restoring a 1957 Chevy truck.

Symphoria Masterworks

If you are a classical music fan, you will not want to miss Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. Plus, Tai Murray performs Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, and Gioachino Rossini’s charming Overture to Semiramide starts the Masterworks series on the right note. You can see the concert in-person on Sunday at 2 p.m. or enjoy it from the comfort of your own home then or on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

2021 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Syracuse area residents to join the fight against the disease at a walk on Sunday at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College. An informational expo at the arena starts at noon and the walk begins at 1:15 p.m. after a ceremony. The route is about two miles. BioBlitz

Cazenovia College BioBlitz

Cazenovia College’s students and faculty will host an array of hands-on learning stations on Saturday throughout the Lakeland Park where participants can learn about organisms commonly found in local lakes, wetlands, and forests. Fish can be observed in a temporary “mini-pond,” guests can try kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding at a Learn-to-Paddle station, and all are welcome to play Bio Bingo and circle around the park with their Bio Passport. Some activities require that guests wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. For all functions, children must be accompanied by an adult. All current COVID protocols will be followed. The event is free and open to the public. It runs from noon to 3 p.m. If the weather is, it will move to Sunday, same times.

Almost Heaven

“Almost Heaven: The Song of John Denver” plays at Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn through Sept. 29.

“Almost Heaven: The Songs of John Denver”

If you love the music of John Denver, this is the final weekend of performances of “Almost Heaven” at Auburn’s Merry-Go-Round Playhouse. This nostalgic and beautiful tribute from The Rev Theatre Co. tells the story of Denver’s rise during the 1960′s folk scene, music superstardom in the ‘70s, and his career in the ‘80s and ‘90s. The performance will feature some his greatest songs including “Annie’s Song,” “Country Roads,” and “Rocky Mountain High.” Proof of vaccination or negative COVID test is required for entering.
