Hunt Smart – Fish Hard – A Few Ideas for Stocking Stuffers | Opinion

Every year when Christmas rolls around, there are so many things to do. Every Christmas Eve my wife and I read about Jesus’ birth from the Bible. After giving thanks to the Lord, sometimes we go into the den where the stockings are hanging and grab one gift. After that we wait until morning to open our gifts. Sometimes morning comes very early.

After that if I am not working we will have a huge breakfast my wife puts together. While she is getting everything ready it’s time for me to go over the stocking stuffers I opened. Sometimes the bigger things for a stocking stuffer just won’t fit in the stocking. They may be hidden someplace else. Getting that new fishing line in the wintertime only makes me think about springtime coming.

I will grab some of the stocking gifts and bring them into the living room and look them over. I start to think about fishing even though it’s hunting season. I can smell the tenderloin cooking as I look things over and I try to sneak into the kitchen and grab a piece of that tenderloin. I don’t normally get away with it, she catches me.

After she sends me out of the kitchen she feels bad for me and then I can get a taste of the tenderloin. Then I get warned not to come back in the kitchen.

I go to my Lazy Boy and think about how I can catch more fish with the new lures. There are so many things that can be put into the Christmas stocking; I cannot name them all. If you are opening the last gift in the stocking and it’s a small one and it’s not the big gift you are looking for, it just might say “go to the garage for your surprise.” Here is a small list that might help with some stocking stuffers, big or small, for the woman or man in your life.

Over the years when I had to work on Christmas day, I miss sneaking into the kitchen for that tenderloin my wife was cooking. I can’t wait to get back in that Lazy Boy and look over all the stocking stuffers. I can think about the days ahead and going fishing.

I wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope Santa brings you everything on your list and fills your stocking full. May the New Year land you the biggest buck and the biggest fish?
