NUTTER FORT, W.Va. (WV News) — Gary Wayne Anderson, 74, of Mt. Clare passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 3, 2021.
He was born at his home in Mt. Clare on November 13, 1946 a son of the late Earl E. and Delma J. Murphy Anderson.
His memory will be forever cherished, by the love of his life, his wife of 52 years, Sharon Louden Anderson.
Gary was the perfect father to his children: Robert “Bob” Anderson of Clarksburg, Kelly Carney and her husband David of Bridgeport, and also Kenny Hanby, whom he thought of as a son, and his wife Kandace of Delaware. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Andrew Anderson, Sydney Freeman, Ryan Anderson, and Garrett Carney; one brother, Earl J. Anderson of Perry, GA; one sister, Carol Ann Greaver of Girard, OH; and several very close nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Orpha Mae Anderson; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth L. Greaver.
Gary was a graduate of Lost Creek High School class of 1964. He attended Fairmont State College and completed a four-year carpenter apprenticeship. He served 36 years with Carpenter’s Local #236 Bridgeport, WV, was a volunteer firefighter with Lost Creek Fire Department, and a member of Jackson No.35 Lodge where he was a 32 Degree Freemason. Gary served as financial secretary for Carpenter’s Local #476 for over 25 years. He was a delegate to North Central Council of Carpenter’s for over 12 years. He was also a delegate to WV Regional Council of Carpenters.
Anyone who knew Gary loved and respected him. He was a central source in the family who taught many lessons. Gary was best known for his endless patience. He loved helping and teaching his grandchildren remodeling jobs at their homes. Gary had a patience for teaching and taking his grandsons hunting like no other. His most important job, and dearest to his heart here on earth, was spending time with his grandchildren and family. Gary was a hard worker and you would not find him sitting around…ever. He was always taking care of his family, even if he did without.
Gary loved to hunt, fish, golf, and work on projects. His favorite spot was on a West Virginia stream in the mountains fly fishing for freshly stocked trout. He and his late father spent endless days together fishing. Gary looked forward to and loved his fishing trips with old friends. He loved to, as he would say, “shoot the bull” with his buddies.
Gary did not spend a vast amount of time enjoying his hobbies, however, because he was always volunteering his time for others. The time he gave was whole-hearted and given selflessly to anyone he knew. Gary was a member of Horizons Church where he volunteered at the welcome center and delivered children’s food backpacks from the church to the schools. He also had an obsession with crossword puzzles as well as word and math games. Gary and his wife, Sharon loved to host family events at their home for their very large family. Most members of their family looked at Gary more like a Dad than their uncle.
Most importantly, Gary will be missed as an irreplaceable father to his daughter and son. He has left an unparalleled impression on everyone that met him, and his passing has left a hole in all our hearts.
