Frank Butcher
Frank Butcher, 96, of North Haven (formerly Hamden/New Haven) passed away June 10, 2022, at Apple Rehab Laurel Woods in East Haven. He was born July 5, 1925, in New Haven, CT to the late William and Martha (Bruening) Butcher. Frank was predeceased by his wife of forty-two years, Jeanne (Kelley) Butcher; his second wife, Ann (Flynn) Butcher; his siblings William Butcher and Jean Ifkovic; and his two sons, Gary F. Butcher and Paul W. Butcher. Frank is survived by his daughter, Susan Smith (Edward) of Middletown; his son, Richard Butcher (Joanne) of Hamden; his four grandchildren Scott Smith (Jennifer), Timothy Smith (Julianna), Jeffrey Butcher (Erin), and Kaitlyn Goodridge (Eric); his two step-grandchildren, Cheralyn Gargano (Michael), and Michael Wahl (Lindsay Cummings); eight great-grandchildren Emma and Madelyn Smith, Quinn and Halen Smith, Adelaide and Hart Butcher, and Landon and Callan Goodridge. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Born and raised in New Haven, Frank ironically grew up on Frank Street and always loved to talk about playing in Butcher’s Lot with his friends. Up until the very end, he would also love to reminisce about picking blackberries off the bushes by his house and all the time he spent fishing—especially fly fishing. Frank was a WWII Navy Veteran where he served as second class petty officer electrician aboard an LSM in the Pacific. Frank lived in Hamden from 1966 until the passing of his first wife, Jeanne, in 1991. It was thereafter he remarried Ann and moved to North Haven until his brief stay at Laurel Woods. Frank was known for his amazing sense of humor. If you looked up wit and sarcasm in the dictionary, you would surely see his photo there. He had the best group of friends whom he loved to travel with and had the absolute best parties—most of the time getting out of hand. After his retirement from the United Illuminating Company, you would find Frank on the golf course either in Connecticut or Florida. If you ever needed something fixed, Frank was your guy as his family used to call him “MacGyver.” One of his most impressive hobbies was building a functioning train set throughout his entire basement, which was a fan favorite amongst his grandchildren. He was also a very talented painter and photographer. Frank was the patriarch of his family, the glue that kept it all together, and the best father and grandfather there was. He will undoubtedly be missed by all that were lucky enough to know him. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Burial in All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service.
