Lake Ontario report
Anglers are continuing to find some salmon in the waters off the lake tributaries in anywhere from 15+ feet of water. There were several reports of fish being marked in 30-50 feet of water. A number of nice brown trout have also been taken. Flasher/fly combinations, meat and spoons are suggested baits. Anglers are finding a bass bite in shallow water, 15-25 feet.

Oswego River report:
The rain over the last couple of days had increased the water flow a bit to 1,070 cfs. It has, however, dropped back to 670 cfs today. Anglers have been making the most of the low water conditions. The river has been very busy the last few days with many anglers at the dam. The high wall and powerhouse have also been producing salmon.

Notice: There are mandatory personal flotation device (PFD) zones on the river. For more information, visit our website at www.visitoswegocounty.com and click on the Fishing Report along the top bar on the home page. The Oswego Fire Department offers loaner life jackets at no charge through its “Loaner for Life” program. For more information contact the fire station, 35 E. Cayuga St., at 315-343-2161.

Salmon River report:
Notice: Due to low water conditions and to ensure an adequate Pacific salmon egg take at the Salmon River Hatchery during the fall spawning season, the Lower Fly Fishing Zone will be closed from September 15th until further notice.

According to the Douglaston Salmon Run:
Wednesday was one of those days to remember. How good a day was it? Well by all anglers’ reports that I received it was by far the best day so far this season and the most fish that we have seen on the run. It’s one of those days where we ask ourselves “Do we call it a run?” or a very heavy push of fish. In reality, it doesn’t make any difference because it was everything that it needed to be. Overall it was a great day on the run. Yesterday flurries of activity were intermixed with periods of relative calm, but plenty of kings were seen making their way up through the run. We also received several reports of browns and steelhead brought to hand, as well as a beauty of an Atlantic. The current water flow is 185 cfs and 214 cfs at Pineville.

According to Whitaker’s Sport Shop & Motel:
Anglers have reported fish holding in the deeper holes such as Papermill, Town Pool, Longbridge, Black Hole and DSR. In the mid to upper end of the river, the majority of fish movement has been at night. With the low water conditions the fish have been holding in the deeper holes during the day. Suggested baits are woolly buggers and krystal buggers in black, olive and brown. Conehead muddlers, egg sucking leeches and estaz eggs are also working well.

Oneida Lake report:
The walleye bite continues in the 25-40 foot water depth. Blade baits, Rapalas and jigs have been working. Anglers have found a few perch in the mix. A few bass have been taken when anglers cover lots of water with stickbaits and swim baits suggested.

Sandy Pond report:
There is little to report from the pond this time of year. Look for bass along the weed beds using spinner baits and rubber worms.
