QUINCY, Ill (WGEM) — Fly fisherman from across the region gathered at Dooley Fly Fishing for their first Fall Fly Flingers Festival Saturday afternoon.

Located at 433 Hampshire Street in Quincy, the event featured fly tying demonstrations, a raffle, pulled pork sandwiches and lots of lively discussions.

Owner Nick Dooley said Quincy has a strong fly fishing community and there has been a fly tying club in the city for years. Dooley said today’s event was a chance for everyone to gather and have fun again.

“We’ve got people from as far away as Cape Girardeau that are up here tying, St. Louis, all over Southern Missouri… We had an event like this in the spring and we just wanted to get everybody back together to see how much our shop has grown and how our business has grown over the past six or seven months,” said Dooley.

He said they plan on holding this event every Fall in Spring in the coming years. He would also like to add a fishing tournament to the celebration next year.

Dooley said fly fishing is quite common in the area, and a fly fishing hook can be used to catch just about anything that swims. He said they offer beginners fly fishing classes. For more information, click here.
