Echuca’s Meg front and centre on Channel 7

Forget about the farmers! What about our dear Meg? She’s practically stealing the show!

As someone eloquently put it, she’s beautiful, a barrel of laughs, great sense of humour, lovely and we’re sure there is more to gush about from Farmer Rob’s end.

Now, episode one on Sunday night saw Meg show some Echuca pride as the only girl to rep her hometown (good onya).

(See: “Echuca, don’t they have horse sales there?” from Farmer Rob. Yes we do. Meg, tell them about the paddle steamers next, just look directly into the camera and tell Australia we have boats and plenty of hotels — well, motels . . . well, cabins.)

Anyway, episode two on Monday went even better for our local gal when she got an all-expenses-paid personal fly-fishing lesson on a remote, privately owned Snowy Mountains stream.

I can sense all the fishing nuts evaluating the 2022 season as they read.

In episode two all five farmers got to return home to their farms with one lady of their choice. The drive back really read like a love letter to the land — forget the chicks.

Maybe the cunning plan all along was to trick home-body farmers away from their properties with the allure of hot girls who didn’t know them when they were four?

Hmmm, much to think about.

Now that we’re away from the big production tent and on the farms the guys are really coming out of their shells, which is great to see.

Overall our favourite line from Monday’s episode was “I’ve got to listen to my heart and my stomach” from Farmer Matt.

I’m not sure what the fella is saying, but I’ll take pity and assume he’s referring to ‘gut feel’.

In terms of our other local this season, Farmer Will from Longwood, I have to say he had a hard time of it on Monday.

Not only did he get caught drinking a Jacob’s Creek wine when he lives two steps over from Heathcote and is surrounded by wine country, he also was the only farmer to take Channel 7’s threat seriously and send a girl home.

No doubt he’ll be feeling a bit buggered when he realises all the other farmers went AWOL and decided to send nobody home earlier.

Other highlights included a Canadian almost fainting when she found a skinned and butchered kangaroo in Farmer Will’s cold room and Farmer Andrew stopping a date to shift sheep for two hours.

In his defence, the truck was meant to arrive earlier but it got bogged.

Also in his defence, when he told his date to count the sheep as they ran off the truck and she didn’t because “they were too fast” — yeah, I wouldn’t be too mad if he politely let her go home.

Anyway, the episodes continue to come at us thick and fast, so start watching it now or they’ll be marrying people before you know it.
