Dennis G. Close, 79, loving husband, father, fur grandfather and retired electrician, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021, in Southern Shores, N.C., after living his entire life in the Sproul and Imler area of Pennsylvania. “Denny” or “Butch,” as he was known by friends and family, attended Greenfield-Kimmel High School in Claysburg, attended trade school, and was an Army veteran. He also worked in the brickyard in Sproul after high school on the “hot floor.” In 1966, Denny was hired by Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec) where he worked until retirement. He was married for over 53 years, to Carol Ann Close, who preceded him in death in 2018.

Butch and Carol Ann enjoyed taking road trips together every year to Gatlinburg, Tenn., visiting the Smoky Mountains and to Skyline Drive in Virginia. They continued to enjoy day trips to local favorite spots in Harper’s Ferry, Hagerstown and Cumberland. Butch and Carol were quite known in the restaurant community and had their favorite servers at their local spots; often ordering the same thing each time they went. He was known for his enjoyment of fishing, helping to stock the local streams for trout season, fly-tying, attending fly-fishing shows at the Jaffa and Seven Springs, and collecting different kinds of flies. He was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and carried a concealed weapon license until his death.

Butch was a 53-year active member of The R.W. Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, Woodbury Lodge No. 539 F&A.M., and member of the A.A.S.R. Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA since 1972 32nd degree. He was very proud when he earned his 50-year pin and lifetime membership in 2018. He attended the meeting and celebration with his Brothers. He was also a member of the Shriners in Altoona, and Bedford Post 113 of the American Legion.

Butch is survived by his daughter, Dr. Nicole C. Close (husband, Chris Albrecht) of Southern Shores, N.C., and his beloved dog, Einstein, along with “fur” grandchildren: Loki and Thor.

Friends and family will be received from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday,
