On the 28th of October 2021, Dennie Ely passed away peacefully after a long battle with lung cancer at the Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was 77.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Ely; his sister, Carla McKennett; his three daughters, Justine Raap (Aaron), Julie Cunningham (Tom), and Sarah Legaspi (Denny); his six grandchildren: Catlyn, Carly, Kaylene, Adele, Landon, and Ronan; and his great grandchild Bo. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Ella Ely; and his sister, Coniss Ely.
Dennie was born on May 26, 1944 in Goodland, Kan. He joined the U.S. Navy after finishing High School in Aurora, Colo. and was always lauded as a top performer in his career field before retiring after 22 years of service. During his career he achieved the rank of TMCM/SS, Chief of the Boat (COB), E9. He was awarded numerous accolades including a National Defense Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, five Navy Good Conduct Medals, two Navy Achievement Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy Pistol Expert Medal and multiple Letters Of Commendation and Appreciation. Dennie enjoyed quality time with friends and family, racing cars, fly fishing and hunting.
Dennie was a loving husband, a devoted father, a dutiful son, a steadfast brother and the best friend you could ever have. He will be missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to know him.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Graveside Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum, Idaho.
