David H Pierce, 87, beloved husband of Barbara (Smith) Pierce, passed away peacefully at home Thursday evening, February 18, 2021, after an extended illness. 

Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Gladys (Wiswell) and Frederick Pierce.

He was a graduate of Beverly High School and Tufts University School of Engineering. 

He was employed by Bomac Laboratories in Beverly, which later became Varian Associates, where he was a research and development engineer for 35 years.

He retired in 1989 and spent much of his time creating his model railroad layout. He spent many hours fly fishing, and renovating his vacation home in Greenfield, N.H. 

He was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed foreign travel and yearly family excursions to Hawaii in past years.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he leaves his brother-in-law Thomas F. Smith of New Castle, N.H., Tom’s partner Kenneth McDonald II, both of whom were a great help during his illness, plus several cousins.

Burial was private. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
