TRINITY – Robert Dale Speight, 83, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 at High Point Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 3, 1938 in Mt. Airy and was the son of the late Robert Maxton and Beulah Gaynelle Davenport Speight. He grew up at the Winston-Salem Children’s Home, graduated from Reynolds High School, and was admitted to High Point College at the age of 16. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and worked as Technical Director with Akzo Nobel for over 46 years. Dale holds multiple patents in chemistry for stains and chemical processes. He was a member of Marlboro Friends Meeting and enjoyed hunting, genealogy and fishing, especially fly fishing. He served on the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association of the Winston-Salem Children’s Home and on the Board of Directors of Muttenz.org. Dale enjoyed traveling extensively both for work and pleasure and had traveled to Central Europe, Southeast Asia, Central America, Canada and Australia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Earline Russell Speight; one great-grandchild; and a half-brother, Stanley Speight.

Dale is survived by his children, Tracy Speight Cove (Richard) of Melbourne, Australia, Susan Speight McGrath Jones of High Point, Brian Douglas Speight (Jean) of Ontario, Canada, and Robert Michael Speight (Paula) of Trinity; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Juanita Wagner (Jack) of Asheville; two brothers, Dub Speight (Marlene) of North Myrtle Beach and John Speight of Lilburn, Georgia; half-sister, Sheila Corriher; half-brother, Danny Speight, both of Albemarle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service celebrating Dale’s life will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2021 at Marlboro Friends Meeting with Pastor Ray Luther officiating. Burial will follow in the Meeting cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marlboro Friends Meeting, 2668 Marlboro Road, Sophia, NC 27350; or to Crossnore Children’s Home, 1001 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
