Remember when you dreamed about being a scientist when you grew up?
(Or, if you are as old as I am, you may have ridden in the back of a DPW pick-up truck to collect old newspapers, bring them to your town’s waste management center and recycle them).
Well, the Whippany River Watershed can help make that dream a reality, for you and your entire family, even if only for a day!
No matter your age, you and your family can participate in the first annual BioBlitz Morris Nature Festival held in Lewis Morris County Park in Morris Township on Saturday, June 12, 2021, from 10 am to 4 pm.
For the early birds, there’s even an “Early Bird Special” bird walk at 7 am. To top it all off, the entire day is free and open to the public. OK, so you are probably thinking, what exactly is a BioBlitz? Is it for me? What Festival?
A BioBlitz is a fun event where participants find and identify as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. It’s sort of like a giant scavenger hunt, but better because you may discover a surprise, an unexpected animal, or a plant, or even a new species. Who knows? You may even find a remnant of a dinosaur!
Then, using an app on your smart phone you upload your discovery to a central repository that allows WRWAC to record and track the biodiversity of the selected area.
