Good day my fellow anglers. My wife Teresa is probably one of the best drop-shotin’ fishergals I know. She has schooled me several times fishing this technique. If the bite is tough, she will stick with it. She will adjust the height of the hook depending on how far up the bass are from the bottom. And if that doesn’t do it, she digs through the worms to find a color that bass will bite. She is cute! Teresa will be sitting on the rear seat talking sweety to the bass trying to coax them in to take her bait. And it works? I am blessed!
DROP SHOT – A tackle rigging technique, employing a hook tied to a line, 4 to 14 inches above a drop shot swivel weight/sinker. The hook is attached using a palomar knot and the weight is attached to the tag line from the knot. The hook is set at a 90 degree angle to the line pointing upward towards the pole. Typical drop shot baits are plastic worms, minnows or crawdads. Drop shotting is a slow finesse fishing technique, and takes practice to be successful. Patience is the key
BLUE LAKES – The trout fishing has been really good. Three cheers for the California Department of Fish & Wildlife for once again stocking the Upper Blue Lake with some nice trout. The faithful that fish along Hwy. 20 have been hooking into some of those trout. Power bait has been working the best. The hot colors have been pink and orange. The folks trolling have also been hooking into limits of trout. Remember to take a kid fishing.
The Upper MILL CREEK POND – Hip-hip,-hurray for Ca. Dept. Fish & Wildlife! HIP-Hip, Hurray- Hip-hip, hurray! For several months now, they have been stocking the Upper Mill Creek Pond with steel/head trout. I know that the regular anglers that fish up there are not happy with me because I am putting the word out… Sorry gang! You all got to share! Pink and orange Powerbait has been working well off the bottom and, Roostertails, Super-Dupers and Panthers will work if the are feeding on the surface. Also hear that some guys have been hooking into some good ones fly fishing.
PLEASE remember this trout fishing jewel we have belongs to us all .. If you pack it in, pack it out! And pick up some extra trash on your way out.
CLEAR LAKE -. Right now the Florida strain bass have started to move up into the shallows snooping around, getting ready to spawn. That’s the good news. The hot spots have been along the north end of the lake. Pretty much you can’t go wrong fishing Rodman Slough to the south end of Lakeport. And, yes, for some anglers, the “A” rig is still the ticket. Slow drag it off the bottom or under and around docks and rock piles. You’ll get bit! Mid week is going to be more enjoyable because there will be fewer tournament anglers on the water pre-fishing. So far, the early spring fishing has been excellent on Clear Lake. Enjoy it now. With the water level so low in the lake, it looks like it’s going to be another tough year with algae.
