Chosen as senior of the month for March, Ashton Meyer has had a full schedule both in and outside of school throughout the last four years.
Meyer is the son of Rendale and Shaun Meyer of rural Brule, Neb.
Born in North Platte, Meyer has always considered Perkins County his home.
Meyer has made the most of his time both in school and out, with a vast variety of interests and activities.
In school, Meyer has been a part of science club, football, wrestling, track and mock trial.
He has received honors of a Scholastic Silver Key in art; and letters in football, wrestling and track.
Outside of school, Meyer has been involved in the Ogallala Garden Club, Ogallala Fly Fishing Club; has helped with cleanups, was a soap box derby assistant, and has participated in two youth groups.
Also, Meyer has been involved in Sam Sims’ Sunday Quiz, has built beehives and raised bees, built guitars, forged a knife, has welded and has planted trees at a camp.
His work history includes working on the family farm, running tractors, grain cart and combine for harvest, hauling irrigation pipe and servicing pivots.
“All of these activities on the farm have given me valuable skills and have helped me to develop a superior work ethic over the years.” Meyer said. “I am definitely thankful for the time that I have been given to work tedious or difficult tasks.”
Following graduation, Meyer plans to attend college for a BSN degree (Bachelors of Science, Nursing) and possibly further his education with a MSN (Masters of Science, Nursing). He is considering  attending a bible college for a nine-month course of study. Eventually, he would like to be a travel nurse, or find a hospital to work for.
Meyer values his school experience for teaching him to work harder. “As I grow older, I’ve found that learning how to do work even when you don’t want to is invaluable. “I really have come a long way since I was a freshman in the art of studying and getting homework done on time.”
Meyer believes his greatest accomplishment thus far is to continue to grow in his faith, “because in the end, that’s what matters most.”
