Asheville Parks & Recreation offer up several family-friendly fall activities

Autumn is in full swing in the mountains, and if you’re looking for some family-friendly activities, look no further!

The Asheville area boasts plenty of outdoor spaces the whole family can enjoy, including Richmond Hill Park which has mountain bike trails, hiking trails and disc golf, or Jake Rusher Park, with accessible sidewalks, basketball courts and more.

WITH UPTICK IN HIKERS EXPECTED THIS FALL, STATE PARK OFFICIALS SHARE SAFETY TIPS

Below are several activities taking place From October through November:

Junior Urban Foresters

  • Tuesdays through October 19, 5 – 6 p.m. at Tempie Avery Montford Center
  • FREE to the public.
  • Youth will learn what urban forestry has to offer in our local area. Tree ID, beneficial insects, invasive invaders, and much more.

Family Fishing Fun

  • Thursday, October 14, 5 – 6:30 p.m. at Azalea Park Fishing Dock
  • $3/child, no fee for adults with their children
  • Join us for a lesson in fishing and try to catch that big one!

Outdoor Movie Night

  • Friday, October 15, 7-9 p.m. at Burton Street
  • FREE to the public.
  • Enjoy an outdoor movie night on the Burton Street field. Movie choices will be announced on the Asheville Parks and Recreation Facebook page. Refreshments will be provided.

FLY FISHING CLASSES & MORE OFFERED OUTDOORS BY PISGAH CENTER FOR WILDLIFE EDUCATION

Glamping

  • Saturday, October 16, 5-7 p.m. at Burton Street
  • FREE to the public.
  • This is a skills workshop designed to offer the community a more comfortable “car camping” experience. Bring your own gear or borrow some of ours!

Burton Street Puppy Parade

  • Saturday, November 6, 4-6 p.m. at Burton Street
  • FREE to the public.
  • Dress up your pup and enjoy dog treats, pet vendors and more. Refreshments and snacks will be provided for pups and their owners, Prizes for “Best Dress Pup” will be awarded.
