Sullivan Chamber Orchestra streams free gala

ONLINE — The Sullivan County Chamber Orchestra (SCCO) is hosting its first virtual gala on Saturday, April 17 at 5 p.m. The virtual gala will be hosted on YouTube Live via Zoom. Follow “SCCO Players” on YouTube to access the stream. This event will be free for viewing by the public.

Hosting the Gala will be SCCO Artistic Director Andrew Trombley and comedic writer, actor and director Emma Tattenbaum-Fine. Throughout the Gala, highlights will be shared from the SCCO Digital Season, as well as newly created content recorded by SCCO musicians Akiko Hosoi, Sarah Weber, Nancy Wegrzyn, Luke Krafka and Andrew Trombley. A press release states, “This evening will help support SCCO (Sullivan County’s only resident chamber orchestra) so it can return in the upcoming season stronger, healthier and continuing to present great musical works, arrangements and performances.”

SBDC offers training as farmers’ market season approaches

ONLINE — The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will offer a two-part webinar series to help local farmers and individuals planning to sell food and other products at farmers’ markets across the region this season. Building a Great Farmers’ Market Booth, Part One will take place on Tuesday, April 20 at 6 p.m. and Part Two: Building Displays on Tuesday, May 18 at 6 p.m. Both webinars will be held on Zoom and are free of charge to participants.

This two-part series, presented by boutique consulting firm Small Potatoes, will give practical tips on selling at a farmers’ market while maximizing the return on the time invested. Part one will cover choosing the right market, taking pre-orders, customer service, capturing wholesale accounts at the market, and how the pandemic has changed market operations. Part two will dive into how building strong displays can draw customers to your booth and how the public’s changing shopping habits may impact how they interact with your booth.

Earth Day celebration: music, plant exchange and more

CALLICOON, NY — On Saturday, April 17, there will be an Earth Day celebration in Callicoon from 12 noon to 5 p.m.

There will be live music performances; Poison Love Band will perform from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

There will be various vendors, along with a community plant and seed exchange table. Attendees are encouraged to take inventory of their plants/seedlings and bring any extras to trade or donate.

Old time radio series from WSPL

Fly Fishing museum webinar

ONLINE — On Thursday, April 22 at 6 p.m., the Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library in Monticello, NY will host “A Gem in the Catskills-The Fly Fishing Museum,” a presentation by Anthony J. Magardino, collection and archives’ chair of the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum.

This region of the county is considered the birthplace of fly fishing in all of America. Many anglers, worldwide, make the trek to the Museum to learn and fish the world-renowned waters.

‘Sullivan County Illustrated’

NARROWSBURG, NY — Sullivan County Illustrated celebrates the work of artists and illustrators living and working in the area and celebrates the debut issue of “Sullivan County Illustrated,” a quarterly zine produced by LJ Ruell, with an exhibit at the Narrowsburg Union.

A press release states, “With work ranging from intricate scenery in pen and ink to vivid renditions of otherworldly characters, comics that celebrate the beauty and absurdity of daily life, and the sweeping fantasy of classic romance novels, the exhibition celebrates the art of illustration in all shapes and styles and features works by LJ Ruell, Rocky Pinciotti, Terry Milk, Sharon Spiak, Donald Belsito, Josh Kessler, John Terhorst, Tim Devereaux, Xeth Feinberg, Jane Axamethy and Julia Lenihan.”

The exhibit will be on display at the Narrowsburg Union through Saturday, May 29. Gallery hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Chamber welcomes Teal Feather Shoppe with a ribbon-cutting

LAKE ARIEL, PA — The Chamber of the Northern Poconos invites the public to attend a ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 22 for the grande opening of Teal Feather Shoppe at 12 noon. The address is 569 Easton Tpk.

The Teal Feather Shoppe is an “eclectic specialty shop” featuring home décor, coffee/tea, jams, artwork, jewelry, furniture and more. A majority of the items are from small, women-owned businesses that are located in the U.S.

Earth Day trivia night

ONLINE — SEEDS (Sustainable Energy Education and Development Support) is looking for teams to participate in its Earth Day Trivia Night, happening on Thursday, April 22 at 6 p.m. Members of each team have to be located in one location and call in from one Zoom account (link and password will be sent via email to each team).

Prior to the event, each team will download the Kahoot! app and have it ready for the event.

The winner will receive prizes from Here & Now Brewing Company (Honesdale, PA). Runners-up will receive a unique Earth Day bumper sticker designed specifically for this night by SEEDS.

‘Shine On’ student art exhibit

ONLINE — The Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA) is hosting “Shine On,” a three-part student art exhibit, on its website.

After the scheduled WCAA “Celebrating Students Creativity” was canceled due to COIVD-19, the AM Skier Insurance Agency and the WCAA decided to move the show online. Seventh- through 12-grade students from Wallenpaupack, Wayne Highlands and Western Wayne School Districts were able to submit; there was such a large response that the show is in three parts.

The show will be online through the end of April.
