Anthony Andrew Renzi
73, of Mason, OH and, formerly, Baker-Whitely Pennsylvania, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. Born to Ned and Lucy (nee DeGory) Renzi on September 1, 1948, in Hooversville, Pennsylvania, he was the youngest of four brothers. A proud son of Italian immigrants, he remained connected to his family’s faith, food traditions, and values all his life, as well as to his rural, coal-mining hometown.
Family was the center of Anthony’s life. Despite traveling the world for work and moving with his beloved wife to many states, he returned to the mountains, woods, and streams of his youth whenever he could. “Home” for Anthony was always wherever his family was. He and his wife were true partners in their life, caring for each other and their extended families in any way they could. He would drop anything to go to his children when they needed help with their math, physics, or engineering homework. He coordinated his international travel to spend time with his daughter while she was studying/working abroad. Quiet, with a keen sense of humor and steady presence, he was a mentor to many in his professional and personal life, particularly to his son/best friend, Steve.
Anthony was a dedicated family man to his wife, his children, and their spouses and families—he particularly loved recently becoming a grandfather, or “Nono,” to his three young granddaughters. A former college football player, Anthony spent many enjoyable game-day weekends with his family in the stands at Notre Dame. He relished vacationing with his family in cabins in the Smokey Mountains or spending time fly fishing with his son, and, later, son-in-law, particularly at Shade Creek. He was a passionate classic-rock listener, a potato-chip aficionado, a slapstick fan, a lover of animals (particularly dogs), an enthusiastic gardener, and a popsicle fiend. You could often find him at home, tinkering with mechanics or a sudoku puzzle, checking in with friends and loved ones, and dreaming of the future.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Lucy Renzi, father-in-law, Stanley Tomaszewski, sister-in-law, Linda Renzi and his nephew, Michael Renzi., and infant niece.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife Deborah Renzi; his mother-in-law Cecilia Tomaszewski; two children, Kristen (Gabriel Gottlieb) Renzi and Stephen (Una Lin) Renzi; three granddaughters: Josephine and Maeve Gottlieb and Rosalee Renzi; three brothers: Joe Renzi, Ned (Joanne) Renzi and Richard (Sue) Renzi; and many nieces and nephews, many who knew him as “Uncle Ant”.
