Kenneth Murray

Green Bay – Our Dad, Kenneth Earl Murray, passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, with us at his side. Dad was born in Escanaba, MI, on January 22, 1931, to Earl and Germaine Murray. He was always proud of his Yooper heritage. As a senior in high school Dad enlisted with the Army. After high school graduation in 1949, he left for bootcamp and was later stationed in Alaska. Upon arrival one of the first things dad did was buy a fly-fishing rod and walked to the river just across the road. He was proud of his service which included the entirety of the Korean War. One of his most recent highlights was participating in the Old Glory Honor Flight to D.C. in May of 2019. He was deeply touched by the tremendous and warm welcome home.

Dad met the love of his life, Colleen Kinney, on a blind date. They were married on Aug. 28, 1954, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Green Bay. Dad worked at Northern Paper Mills until retirement (James River) in 1992. A man of many passions, he enjoyed scenic drives and connecting with nature and wildlife, with a special place in his heart for fishing. His skills as a master angler will live on through his children and grandchildren. He was a proud member of the Green Bay Area Great Lakes Sport Fishing Club and the Brown County Conservation Alliance. Dad and Mom loved traveling in their motorhome visiting every state except for Hawaii and Maine. Faith and family were always priority and Dad did his best to take advantage of every chance to meet with his Prince of Peace Parish family. You could count on finding Dad in his favorite pew for Mass before stopping for ice cream on his way home. Dad always had a story to tell and never lost his sense of humor, even during his recent trials in the hospital. Many learned that if Dad started telling you a story you had to be prepared have the time to listen.

Dad will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his daughter, Mary Kay (Michael) Pfeiffer; sons, Michael Murray and Paul (Bev) Murray; grandchildren, Nathan (Christy) Pfeiffer, Dennis (Dana) Murray, Brian (Brittany) Murray and Kristin (Jeff) Maciejewski; 8 great grandchildren, Owen and Austin Pfeiffer, Ruxin Murray, Wyatt and Grant Murray, and Jack, Lydia and Lily Maciejewski. Dad also leaves behind his cousin, Eileen Engstrom; in-laws, Dennis Kinney, Cal (Gerry) Kinney, Gloria Shea and Kathi (John) Heezen; and many other family and friends, including special friends, Jerry Nick and Donny Adler.

Please join us at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, with a Parish Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. We will continue to visit at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Rd., from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, with Rev. We will forever love you and remember you and we know you and Mom are watching over our families.
