Hospice 21st annual 5K Run & Walk

Halifax Health-Hospice will host the 21st annual 5K Run & Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Kenneth W. Parker Amphitheater, 2001 City Center Circle in Port Orange.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Hospice Family Caregiver Program.

Race day activities include the 5K Run & Walk, which begins at 8 a.m., a Kiddie Fitness Zone at 8:15 a.m. for children 10 years of age and younger and a Veterans Community Pinning after the race.

The 5K Run & Walk is part of the Live Your Life Well Series and Daytona Running Series and will be professionally timed.

True to the Blue 5K

True to the Blue 5K will honor Ashley Guindon, an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University graduate and veteran who was killed on her first day as a police officer.

The 5K will be at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the ERAU Legacy Walk near the fitness center and instructional center.

Race fee is $30. The run proceeds are used to fund a Homeland Security Scholarship for students in that degree program. To register, visit https://runsignup.com.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Cross County will be in action at the Sports Complex, 601 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Daytona Beach.

Cross Country hosts Sunshine State Conference Championships at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at soccer stadium.

Women’s Volleyball will face Florida Southern at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at ICI Center.

DeLand teen will race trucks

GMS Racing officials announced recently Daniel Dye of DeLand will drive the No. 43 Chevrolet Silverado RST in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for the team’s 2023 racing season.

Daniel, who joined GMS Racing in 2021 for a part-time ARCA Menards Series East and National schedule, moved to a full-time campaign in 2022. In 20 starts, he earned one pole, a series-high 13 top-fives and 17 top-10 results; and finished second in the drivers’ points standings.

Off the track, the 18-year-old works closely with his family’s Race to Stop Suicide non-profit.

Golf tournament

The 19th annual Jane Cerrone Memorial Golf Tournament will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Crane Lakes Golf and Country Club, 1790 Crane Lake Blvd., Port Orange.

Entry Fee is $75 per person, which includes golf, continental breakfast, lunch, range balls, special events, prizes and commemorative tournament gift. There will be an optional 50-50 and raffle. Hole sponsorships are available for $50.

Proceeds benefit Junior Golf and First Tee Programs in Volusia County.

Breakfast and registration will start at 7:30 p.m. Entries close Monday, Nov. 7.

Changing Lives 5K

Operation Changing Lives 14th annual 5K run and walk will be at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at 3701 S. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach Shores.

Toys will be collected and given to underprivileged children in the community.

Pre-registration is $30. Day of race is $35. Registration will start at 6:30 a.m.

Strongmen and Strongwomen compete

The Official Strongman Games, a festival of strength bringing together hundreds of athletes, will be Nov. 11-13 at the Ocean Center, 101 N. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach.

More than 300 athletes from more than 30 countries will compete for the title of “World’s Strongest” across multiple divisions.

Over three days, the strongest men and women across a range of weight classes and age groups will showcase their skills as they compete in circus dumbbell, car walk, axle deadlift and atlas stones.

Single day passes are $45, three-day passes are $90 and VIP passes, including a meet and greet with athletes, start at $200; children 12 and younger get free admission. Tickets available at the door or in advance at strongman.games.

NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour announces 2023 schedule

As NASCAR prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2023, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour blends the old with the new as 19 race dates were announced in the 2023 schedule.

The Tour will kick off the season at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida for the second straight year, joining the track’s “World Series of Asphalt Stock Cars Racing” during NASCAR’s Speedweeks, racing under the lights on Saturday, Feb. 11. The 65th running of the DAYTONA 500 at nearby Daytona International Speedway will take place the following weekend.

New Smyrna Beach hosting Fly Fishing Film Festival

The 2022 International Fly Fishing Film Festival will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Marine Discovery Center, 520 Barracuda Blvd. in New Smyrna Beach.

The two-hour presentation will feature nine short- and feature-length films from all corners of the globe, showcasing the passion, lifestyle and culture of international fly fishing.

The event is being hosted by the Trailer Trash Fly Fishing Podcast. General admission is $10.

Blaine O’Neal Memorial Golf Tournament

The Blaine O’Neal Memorial Golf Tournament will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Cypress Head at 6231 Palm Vista St., Port Orange.

The cost is $85 per player, which includes continental breakfast, golf, range balls, bonus bag and boxed lunch.

All proceeds benefit the South Daytona Community Trust furthering their efforts to support the residents of South Daytona.

The tournament is named in memory of Blaine O’Neal, who served as mayor for five years before his sudden death in 2010. Mr. O’Neal was a life-long South Daytona resident.
