Here’s the latest installment in our series of videos called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video will teach a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.
Two weeks ago, Tim demonstrated how to reverse the thread direction around the hook. This caused several commenters to ask, “Why would you want to reverse the thread direction?” Always obliging, Tim shows how he uses this technique to create pairs of wet-fly wings that match up beautifully on the hook shank. The reversed thread pushes the second wing against the first, rather than away from it. The results speak for themselves.
