Here’s the latest installment in our series of videos called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video will teach a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.

Last week, in Part 2 of his series on Mylar tubing, Tim showed you how to make a cool fly head by doubling the tubing over on itself a couple times. The result is flashy and will push water, which draws strikes from predatory fish. Here, he puts it all together to show you how you can create a simple baitfish pattern with a piece of tubing, three thread wraps, and some adhesive. Add whatever you want to this basic design–marabou, deer hair, eyes, etc.–and you can imitate a wide variety of natural forage fish.
