When a recipe calls for a hook of a specific size, how is that size determined? As Tim explains, this is a question without a clear answer, as there is no industry standard. What is consistent, though, is the relative relationships among hook sizes: the bigger the number, the smaller the hook, except once you get larger than a size 1. So the difference between a size 2 and a size 2/0 is important.
