Everybody loves casting poppers for bass and watching the fish smash the surface bug, but what do you do on those days when the fish just won’t commit. In this video from The New Fly Fisher, Mark Melnyk shows the effectiveness of a tandem rig featuring a popper and a Balanced Leech or big stonefly nymph as a dropper. The commotion caused by the popper draws the fish to the fly, and then they see the tasty leech of nymph and eat it. The same rig with a smaller popper and nymph works well for panfish, as well.
