Last year, the folks at Mad River Outfitters in Columbus, Ohio, launched a new series about fly casting. In the latest episode, Brian Flechsig talks how you should think about rhythm and timing in fly casting. In fact, he even does away with the term “fly casting,” choosing to focus on “line unrolling.”
Flechsig shows you how to think about storing potential energy in the fly rod. If you wait too long on your backcast, you lose that potential energey, and if you come forward too soon, you overpower the line and whip off your fly. Your line will tell you if you’re doing it right, by unrolling straight and true.
