Big trout love holding against undercut banks, which offer protection from predators and strong currents plus easy access to a steady supply of food. But catching these fish is not always easy. The keys are to take up the proper position (what Dave Jensen might call “mending with your feet) and to ensure that your fly is dead-drifting through the trout’s tight sight window.

In this great video from Jensen Fly Fishing, Amelia explains why she doesn’t like to cast across the current, how she times her cast, and what to do if you don’t connect with the trout the first time. It’s a great lesson in situational awareness and patience, which pay big dividends.
