When you’re faced with a run that seems fairly featureless–with no boulders, obvious seams, or troughs–it can be tough to decide where to fish. In this great video from The New Fly Fisher, Orvis product developer Jesse Haller demonstrates how he covers the water by creating grids and working his way through them. On Connecticut’s Farmington River, Jesse goes into detail on how to break down a run and effectively fish it. Having spent time on the water with Jesse, I can personally vouch for how well this technique works.
