Video: Preserving the Art of the Featherwing Streamer

Here’s a cool video about New Hampshire-based fly tier Scott Biron, who has made it his mission to keep traditional featherwing streamers alive. As many anglers have moved on to using modern patterns that incorporate synthetic materials, Biron carries on the techniques of famed tiers of the past, such as Carrie Stevens, Dr. J Hubert Sanborn, and Mike Martinek. I cut my teeth using many of these patterns on the Rapid River in northwestern Maine in the early 1990s, and I still catch plenty of fish on Grey and Black Ghosts.

Featherwings looks more realistic in the water than they do in the vise.
