The Dark Hendrickson Wet is a great all-around pattern for springtime fishing, or at any time that there are dark mayflies available to trout. The pattern is production fished on a traditional wet-fly swing, dead-drifted, or even twitched. It’s just buggy enough and suggestive enough that trout fall for it regularly.

In this typically killer video, Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions shows you how to tie an elegant, yet simple version of this classic. The barbless black competition hook makes a nice base, and you’ll find that the way Tim prepares each feather and clump of fibers will help you tie countless other patterns. For a good lesson on fishing wet flies, check out this great video from The New Fly Fisher.
