Over the past couple of years, Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions has showed us how to tie the Intruder Leech and the Pine Squirrel Trout Spey Streamer, both of which make use of a shank and a trailing hook. He’s also offered a great primer on understanding shanks in general. This week, he demonstrates another great pattern that offers a ton of action in the water and performs particularly well fished trout-Spey style.

Two-Tone Intruder
Hook shank: Waddington shank (here, a Partridge V1SS), size 20mm.
Thread #1: Brown, 6/0 or 140-denier.
Connection: Berkley FireLine, 30-pound test.
Hook: Intruder-style hook (here, a Partridge Z4), size 8.
Adhesive #1: Superglue, here Fly Tyers Z-Ment.
Eyes: Gold bead-chain eyes, medium.
Butt: Ginger Angora-goat dubbing.
Flash: Gold Krystal Flash.
Back: Brown zonked pine-squirrel zonker strip.
Belly: Mottled golden-straw Brahma hen.
Head: Tying thread.
Adhesive #2: Head cement, here Sally Hansen Hard-as-Nails.
Tools: Scissors for braid, rubber band, whip finisher.
Note: Tie the pattern in different complementary-color combinations.
