If you’re looking for an easy-to-tie caddisfly pattern that can imitate a variety if species, the Tim Flagler of of Tightline Productions has got a fly for you. The DPH Caddis can be tied in a variety of colors and sizes, and you should be able to whip these out quite quickly, as there are only three materials. As usual, Tim shares some useful techniques, especially the way he prepares the hackle feather before tying it in.
DPH Caddis Dry
Hook: Your favorite dry-fly hook (here, a Fulling Mill 5050), sizes 14-18.
Thread: Tan, 8/0 or 70-denier.
Body: Olive SuperFine Dubbing.
Wing: Medium-dun Para Post Wing.
Hackle: Dark barred-dun hackle, slightly oversize.
Head: Tying thread.
Adhesive: Head cement.
Tools: Hackle pliers, whip-finish tool.
